There are two main categories of Scotch Whisky, single malt and blended. Both spirits start with the same process of combining malted grains, water and yeast. The yeast is then twice distilled in copper, before a length of time maturing in traditional wooden barrels. It is at this stage that these two types of Whiskies start to differ.

Blended Scotch Whisky is often said to have a slightly smoother, milder taste and due to its nature tends to be less pricey than its single malt counterpart. For those who are not as keen on the rich peatiness that single malt often has, a blended Scotch may be more to their taste.
