While pink Gin may seem like a newcomer to the drink’s cabinet, it has been around for a good while. It is said to have been created in the 1800s by the Royal Navy and was a combination of Gin and Angostura Bitters. It was ideal for quelling the seasickness sailors often were struck down with. The addition of Angostura Bitters gave the Gin it’s now trademark blush colour, and it has since gained a strong following; primarily due to the newer additions of sweet berry and botanical flavours.
While traditionally drunk over a glass of ice and nothing more, the pink Gin of today is perfect drunk on its own, with tonic or mixed into any number of cocktails. Infusing strawberries, raspberries and rose, has made this once medicinal drink into something rather special. Fresh, sweet and undeniably photogenic, pink Gin is very much a staple of any drinks cabinet.
Here at The Drinks Basket, we stock a wide range of pink Gins, including those flavoured with botanicals such as pink peppercorns as well as the now-iconic Unicorn Tears raspberry liqueur. So why not dive in and discover a new taste of Gin today?
